Lee Gardens Area Urban Talks Series – Episode 25 | In The Garden [Anthotype Photographic Printmaking Workshop]

Saturday, 2025/10/25

Did you know? The garden is a place where you can harvest your photographic chemistry!

“ROOTED”, an exhibition connecting the stories of thirteen Lee Gardens Association members through a photo-documentary lens. The heart of the exhibition features intimate photographs taken by the shop owners themselves. These are paired with the fresh eyes of Sky Li, a young Hong Kong filmmaker stepping in as an outsider. His short documentary brings our community’s voices to life, inviting you to experience the beautiful dialogue between tradition and change.

As part of “ROOTED”, we invite you to join an immersive workshop led by award-winning young printmaker Julie May.

In this hands-on session, participants will explore Anthotype, a camera-less photographic process that uses natural, light-sensitive plant pigments to create unique and colourful prints. Inspired by the exhibition’s theme of tracing the past and present of Causeway Bay, the workshop begins with a guided walk led by Sky Li—the filmmaker and photographer behind the exhibition—who will share his own perspective as an “outsider” to the neighbourhood. Participants will capture their own photographs around Lee Gardens Area before returning to the exhibition space to translate these images into prints.

Through this tactile, experimental process, you’ll create vibrant, one-of-a-kind prints that reflect your personal vision of the Lee Gardens Area — bridging photography, printmaking, and storytelling.

Dates: 25 October 2025 (Saturday)

Time: 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Location: ROOTED Exhibition (1/F, 23 Lan Fong Road, Lee Gardens Area)
