Vintage motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular these days especially with certain brand models. Leather craftsman Ah Fat and the owner of the nearby LUDDITE vintage shop Rex, both have a passion for vintage motorcycles. They’ve teamed up to create the Roadmentic brand to offer nostalgic motorcycle accessories like helmets, leather jackets and gloves to bring motorcycle enthusiasts together.
Ah Fat has always been a fan of nostalgic and retro things because of their simple and straightforward designs. He explains, “Many things need to be connected to the internet these days. With the advance of technology, items such as mobile phones can’t be too old otherwise they won’t be compatible with today’s technology. But a motorbike is different. There’s no need to keep up with trends or new changes. Even old motorcycles can drive alongside the latest models on the road.”
Visitors to Roadmentic will find an extensive collection of new and interesting items. Ah Fat laughs, “Without old objects, how can there be new ones? Many things that people think are new or never seen before are actually evolved from old objects. Because you’ve never seen these ‘old’ items, you become curious about them.”
When asked why he chose to set up his shop in Lei Shun Court, Ah Fat said he liked old-fashioned neighbourhoods especially those with a sense of space. And the lack of competition between the shops means greater harmony. “It’s a place where old and new shops can co-exist. Just like vintage motorcycles, they never go out of fashion.”
